Amber DiStasi

Program Director

Amber’s grandparents ran a theater school in 1950s Los Angeles called Theater Arts Workshop—so when she created her own program in Bolinas, naming it in their honor felt natural.

She began performing at age six at the Bolinas Community Center (famously carried onstage asleep by her dad during Fiddler on the Roof) and quickly fell in love with theater. She continued performing throughout her childhood with the West Marin Community Chorus and later joined Tam High’s drama program (ETC), where she first explored directing.

Amber studied theater at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and initially pursued acting. Over time, she discovered her true passion was in the creative process—writing, directing, and bringing stories to life. After creating her own work and directing Shakespeare productions at the Bolinas School, she found her way back to what she’d always loved.

After returning to Bolinas to raise her family, Amber began volunteering in her daughter’s classroom, creating plays, radio productions, and Shakespeare projects with students. It was there that everything clicked: this was the work she was meant to do.

When the opportunity arose to start a new after-school theater program, it felt like perfect timing. Theater Arts Workshop was born. Today, Amber is dedicated to inspiring young performers and fostering a love of theater in the next generation.
